Universal Electronics Makes LG Optimus Vu: II "Q Remote" Universal Remote App a Reality
SANTA ANA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
Universal Electronics Inc. (UEI) (Nasdaq:UEIC) today announced
that the new LG Optimus Vu: II's groundbreaking "Q Remote" app is the
latest smartphone app to use UEI technology.
Q Remote uses UEI's infrared blaster microcontroller technology along
with UEI's proprietary UEI QuickSet for seamless set-up and universal
control. Together, they transform the LG Optimus Vu: II into a platform
enabling consumers to control hundreds of consumer electronic devices
such as set-top boxes, audio equipment and home appliances. While other
universal remote smartphone apps rely on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, Q Remote
ensures that many more devices can be controlled through UEI's embedded
ubiquitous infrared beaming solution.
According to Nielsen, mobile devices are now an integral part of the TV
viewing experience. A Q4 2011 Nielsen survey of connected device owners
found "most US smart device owners use their device while watching TV."
U.S. smartphone owners said using their device while watching TV was a
daily event, for various experiences like video, and social media. As
such, UEI's embedded control solution delivers a much needed feature in
smartphones that gives consumers the ability to control simple things
like turning up the volume on their television or tuning their set-top
box to a specific channel.
The Optimus Vu: II, the first device to include the Q Remote
application, launched in September 2012. Consumers can now surf the web,
send messages and control home devices all at the same time from one
convenient device. Control is made even easir by allowing the user to
control devices in the locked screen mode for instant remote control
access, similar to traditional push-button remotes.
UEI QuickSet SDK is a unique downloadable application that makes the
mobile smart device truly a part of the everyday home entertainment
experience. UEI's software delivers the most comprehensive and accurate
remote control signal database in the industry to guarantee
compatibility with thousands of AV brands and device types and ensures
an almost effortless setup and control experience in home entertainment.
"We are proud to be a key partner to LG and their launch of the Q
Remote," says Paul Arling, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for UEI.
"The success of Q Remote confirms the market potential for UEI
technology in the mobile space. Our portfolio of patents and proprietary
technology make us the natural choice for any smartphone company looking
to bring universal remote apps to market."
