Keller man accused of lighting fire in Radio Shack store during robbery

FORT WORTH, Jan 11, 2013 (Fort Worth Star-Telegram - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 22-year-old Keller man is behind bars today, accused of squirting a clear liquid onto the counter of a Radio Shack, lighting it on fire, and then threatening to do the same to the employee if his robbery demands were not met.

"Do you want this to happen to you " the robber reportedly told the employee, according to a Fort Worth police report.

The robbery occurred about 8:16 p.m. Wednesday at the Radio Shack at 201 N.E. 28th Street in north Fort Worth.

The employee told police that a man wearing a camouflage hoodie walked into the store and demanded two iPhones, two Playstation PS Vita systems and cash, the report states.

The robber then squirted liquid from a clear bottle onto the glass counter near the register and lit it with a cigarette lighter. After threatening the employee, the robber then snuffed the flames out with his arm, catching his sleeve slightly on fire, said robbery Sgt. Joe Loughman.

The employee told police he complied with the robber's demands for fear that he would be burned.

Loughman said another employee who had been out to dinner returned to the store in time to see the suspect fleeing on foot.

"As he was coming back, he saw the (suspect) running out," Loughman said. "He stuck his head in the door and his co-worker was on the phone with 911 and said, 'That guy just robbed us,' so he follows him." Loughman said the employee who followed the suspect was able to alert police that the suspect had removed his camouflage hoodie, was now wearing a black hoodie, and had gone inside a check cashing business on North Main Street.

Officers located the suspect, wearing a black hoodie and carrying a green backpack, at a counter inside the business counting money, Loughman said.

Officers noted that the man, identified in a police report as Yusef Aziz Dove, smelled like gasoline.

The report states Dove was identified as the robber by the Radio Shack employee. Inside Dove's backpack, police located the stolen property, a bottle of flammable liquid, as well as a camouflage hoodie, the report states.

Dove was being held in the Mansfield jail Thursday morning with bail set at $50,000.
