TSMC 2012 Revenue Surpasses TWD500bn

Jan 11, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Leading wafer OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC; NYSE: TSM) for the first time gained operating revenue of more than TWD 500 billion in 2012.

The company reported operating revenue of TWD 506.2 billion in 2012, up 18.5% year on year. After such a record revenue, the company believes that its revenue may reach TWD 600 billion in 2013.

The revenue growth in 2012 is mainly attributable to short supply of 28nm chips and sustainable growth of capacity.

Looking forward to the year 2013, since QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM), NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (AMD; NYSE: AMD) all begin to use 28nm processor in the mobile field, TSMC will be able to gain more orders as a leading 28nm chip OEM. Besides, as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) began to abandon Samsung-made components, the chance will be big for TSMC to get A6 and A7 processor orders from Apple, which will substantially increase the revenue of the company.
