CARDIN REMARKS ON THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF JACK LEW AS TREASURY SECRETARY

Jan 10, 2013 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- January 10, 2013 Contact: Sue Walitsky 202-224-4524 or 202-320-0819 (cell) CARDIN REMARKS ON THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF JACK LEW AS TREASURY SECRETARY Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, made the following statement in response to President Obama's selection of White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew to be his next Secretary of the Treasury.

"This is a critical time for America's fragile economy and it is essential that we have strong leadership, like Jack Lew, at the Treasury Department as we work to stem our growing debt and tackle comprehensive tax reform. America needs the stability and predictability that can only come from a new Secretary of the Treasury who already is intimately familiar with the economic and budget reality facing our country and someone who has the experience to articulate a balanced solution to our problems. I look forward to a fair and open confirmation process, during which we can fully examine Mr. Lew's extensive experience in finding thoughtful and appropriate solutions for our fiscal challenges."
