Your Town: Dannemora [The Press-Republican, Plattsburgh, N.Y.]

(Press-Republican (Plattsburgh, NY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 10--DANNEMORA -- The Dannemora Town Council recently took a step toward improving cell-phone service in the Chazy Lake area.

At a meeting last month, councilors unanimously approved a new local law that allows the town to regulate any wireless communications facilities erected in Dannemora.

Chazy Lake currently has little to no wireless coverage, according to Dannemora Town Clerk Deborah Coryer, and passing the law was a necessary step in the town's efforts to establish a cell-phone tower in the area.

In addition, councilors used the meeting to make a change to the town's dog-licensing law.

The modified legislation allows for the town to charge dog owners $5 for each month they are late in paying their canine licensing fees.

At the same meeting: Site change: Town Supervisor Americo "Ves" Pivetta noted that town meetings held in Lyon Mountain will no longer take place at the Fire Station, as the building has poor acoustics. Instead, sessions in that hamlet will take place at the Methodist Church there.

Appraisal: Pivetta reported that he received word that the state is in the process of having the closed Lyon Mountain Correction Facility appraised in preparation for the eventual sale of the buildings, which have been out of use for nearly two years.

Playground equipment: The Town Council passed a resolution to purchase three playground equipment sets from Adirondack Storage Barns in North Lawrence at a total cost of about $9,000. The sets will be placed at Emma King Park in Ellenburg Depot, Chazy Lake Beach and the Lyon Mountain playground.

Town Hall: A resolution was also OK'd by the council to hold a special meeting on initiating the completion of construction work to the interior of the new Town Hall building in Chazy Lake, located at 78 Town Garage Road, with an engineer from Architecture, Engineering and Land Surveying Northeast participating.

The session is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the present Town Hall at 1168 Cook St., in Dannemora, and the public is being encouraged to attend.
