Tablet Computer Shipments 2012 Hit 65mn in China

Jan 09, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China's shipments of tablet computers reached 65 million in 2012, according to foreign media.

The figure exceeded those of laptops for the first time and made China the second largest tablet computer consumption market, according to data from research company NPD.

China took 27% of the global tablet computer market in 2012, and most of the shipments in the country were contributed by local medium- and small-sized brands. In addition, in North America-the largest tablet computer consumption market-the shipments of tablet computers also exceeded those of laptops for the first time. The shipments of tablet computers hit 85 million there, taking up 35% of the total in the world.

Since shipments of tablet computers exceed those of laptops in the two biggest markets, the same phenomenon is reckoned to appear globally in 2013, according to NPD. By then, the global shipments of tablet computers are reckoned to reach about 240 million, compared with 207 million reported by laptops, added NPD.
