Thousands in cash taken from Walmart

Jan 08, 2013 (Kerrville Daily Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Walmart surveillance videos showed someone breaking into cash registers in the store's automotive and garden departments between 9 and 9:50 p.m. Saturday, according to the Kerrville Police Department.

The store manager reported the incident to police at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday and said $2,474 was taken from two registers in the garden and automotive centers. Damage to each register totaled $500. The person in the video could not be identified as of Monday, said Sgt. Mary Krebs, police spokeswoman. She said officers with the Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and police made no arrests as of Monday.

Man arrested, charged with felony DWI Scott Hamilton Butler, 34, of Kerrville, was arrested Friday morning and received a felony DWI charge.

Krebs said an officer stopped Butler for speeding in the 1400 block of Sidney Baker Street at about 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

Butler appeared disoriented, exhibited other signs of intoxication and failed a sobriety test. Because it was his third DWI charge, Butler was taken to Peterson Regional Medical Center gave a blood specimen. Krebs said Butler may have been intoxicated on something other than alcohol, and his blood results are pending.

Butler's charge is a felony because he was twice convicted of DWI. Butler pleaded no contest to and was convicted of his second DWI charge in May 2012. He was sentenced to a year of probation and 40 hours of community service instead of 180 days in jail.

Police investigate reported burglary Residents renting a house in the 400 block of Meadowview Lane said their home was burglarized between 2 and 6 a.m. Sunday, according to Krebs. The residents reported a missing laptop, television and Xbox. Krebs said police have a possible suspect and are investigating the incident. No arrests had been made as of Monday.
