First Security Bank robbed; Bowling Green police searching for suspectJan 04, 2013 (Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A video camera captured images of a man who robbed First Security Bank at 1018 Chestnut St. at about 11 a.m. Thursday. After viewing surveillance footage, Bowling Green Police Department investigators determined the robber is a white man between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds and who was dressed in a black shirt and jeans. He wore a mask and sunglasses which covered most of his face, according to Officer Ronnie Ward, spokesman for BGPD. The man was also wearing black gloves and carried a black bag or backpack. Witnesses told police the man entered the bank, showed a handgun tucked in his waistband and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the man left and is thought to have traveled on foot toward U.S. 31-W By-Pass, Ward said. A witness who was inside the bank at the time of the robbery said she dialed 911 from her cellphone when she noticed that the suspect had a gun. She then put her phone back in her pocket and waited for police to arrive. "I saw the gun in his pants and was scared," the witness said. "I heard him saying, 'Give me the money with no ink pads.' " The witness said the teller did what the man said and that the robbery didn't take long. "I cussed him out a little (as he was leaving), saying he shouldn't be robbing a bank," the witness said. Customers were shocked as they pulled into the bank parking lot and saw the entrance blocked with yellow crime tape. Family members of a teller working at the bank at the time of the robbery arrived about noon to check on her. They heard about the robbery from another family member, who works across the street from the bank. The teller told family members that she was not hurt but did sound like she was "shook up" when they spoke to her on the phone. "There's a lot of people stealing," the teller's daughter said. "People have just lost their minds." People who commit such crimes must be out of work or addicted to methamphetamine or other drugs, the daughter said. "That may not be the case (here), but that's just my thoughts," she said.
