ZTE Sees Global Smartphone Shipment of 35mn in 2012

Jan 04, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Executive vice president of ZTE Corporation (SZSE: 000063 and SEHK: 0763) disclosed recently that the company saw global smartphone shipment of about 35 million in 2012.

The executive vice president added that ZTE would spend about three years in improving brand image to narrow the gap with companies like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Samsung Electronics.

Statistics show that about 40% of ZTE's operating revenue from mobile phone business is contributed by domestic market. The company saw fastest growth in mobile phone sales in US market in 2012 and the operating revenue from this market would hit USD 1 billion in 2012, of which about 90% would be contributed by mobile devices, forming a big contrast with the fact that the company merely saw about USD 400 million in operating revenue in US market in 2011.

As for the 2013 target, the executive vice president anticipated that the company may see 30% year-on-year growth in operating revenue from smartphone business in 2013, while its share in global smartphone market may grow by 50%.
