BRIEF: Police Raid Middletown Crack House

MIDDLETOWN, Jan 04, 2013 (The Hartford Courant - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Narcotics officers on Thursday raided a crack house that they said was being used as a satellite office for a Hartford drug operation.

Business was brisk, police said in a press release: One suspected drug dealer's phone "continuously rang with would-be drug addicts looking to purchase crack cocaine" during the drug bust at an apartment at 24 Liberty St.

Police arrested three people -- one of whom they said was combative: Tykwell "Money" Walton, 20, of White Street in Hartford; Reginald Gaunichaux, 49, of Church Street in Middletown and Paula Wooten, 59, who lives at the Liberty Street apartment, were arrested on drug charges.

Gaunichaux, who police said fought with officers in the booking area, also was charged with interfering with the execution of a search warrant and failure to submit to fingerprints.

Police said the department's Street Crime Unit launched an investigation after police received "numerous" complaints about activity at the apartment.

Investigators learned that Wooten was allowing drug traffickers from Hartford to sell large amounts of crack cocaine to area addicts at the beginning of each month in the apartment, police said.
