BRIEF: Students invited to submit essay for Black History Month contest


Jan 04, 2013 (Herald-Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Bloomington students in grades 4 through 12 are invited to submit essays for the city's 2013 Black History Month essay contest.

This year's theme is "Lessons in Leadership." Each essay must be between 500 to 600 words long and "describe significant aspects of the subject's life story and how he or she has demonstrated leadership and contributed to society." Students can select from a list of 11 possible subjects, which can be found at www.bloomington.in.gov/bhm.



Prizes will be awarded for elementary, middle and high school categories during a Feb. 21 reception.

Deadline for submission is 5 p.m., Jan. 31. Essays may be submitted electronically to [email protected] or mailed to Black History Month Essay Contest, Safe and Civil City Program, P.O. Box 100, Bloomington IN 47402.


Entrants must include their name, grade, email address, telephone number and the name of their school on their submission.
