Traffic accident leads to arrest


RICHMOND, Jan 01, 2013 (Richmond Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- On Saturday, police charged Jesse Williams, 23, of Lexington, with several offenses after police said they found a plastic bag of drugs and other pill bottles inside his vehicle. Some of the recovered prescription bottles belonged to Williams' mother, according to a Richmond police news release.



Officers were dispatched at 6:48 p.m. to several traffic accidents on the Robert R. Martin Bypass, where an officer found a vehicle that had struck a guard rail in the eastbound lane.

"Williams was operating the vehicle at the time of the accident and falsely identified himself as his brother, giving police his brother's identifying information," RPD Chief Larry Brock stated in a release.


He later was released from the scene of the collision after which the investigating officer discovered a plastic bag containing numerous prescription pills in unlabeled containers along with several prescription bottles, the chief said.

Williams also is charged with giving a police officer a false name/address, operating on a suspended license and 12 counts of illegally possessing of a legend drug.

Charges made in guitar theft Two men were arrested Monday night after someone reported a guitar stolen from a resident on Villa Drive.

Carl E. Ruppe, 33, Ballard Drive, and Clifford R. White, 34, Red Lick Road, were arrested in connection with the theft that reportedly occurred Christmas Eve.

Entry was gained by forcing open the rear door, according to police. The following items were listed as missing: an Ibanez electric bass guitar, a black Sony 32-inch LCD television, a black Sony 17-inch laptop computer, serial No. SCND9193SBK, a black Sony PlayStation 2 gaming system and a Snake Charmer .410 gauge shotgun. The estimated loss is $3,600.

The follow-up investigation revealed that Ruppe and White had been in possession of the stolen guitar and transferred it to a third party two days after the theft, the police chief said. The guitar, valued at $500, was recovered and returned to the owner.

Ruppe was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 and theft by deception under $500. White was charged for receiving stolen property under $10,000. Both were booked into the Madison County Detention Center.

Other crime: --A representative of Blue Grass Plating, 451 N. Estill Ave., reported Dec. 26, that the business had been broken into overnight and three vending machines had been forced open and damaged.

Entry was gained by forcing open a rear side door to the building, according to police. An unknown amount of currency was stolen from the three vending machines, all of which were damaged beyond repair. The estimated loss caused by theft and damage is $15,000.

--A resident in the 200 block of Evansdale Avenue reported that several items had been stolen from his unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours. The following items were reported missing: 150-piece Popular Mechanics socket set, a 12-inch yellow gold herringbone necklace and a bottle of prescription medication. The estimated loss is $550.

--A patron of the Red Roof Inn reported Dec. 26 that several items had been stolen overnight from his unlocked vehicle. Reported missing were: a reproduction painting of Van Gogh's "Cafe Terrace at Night" in a black frame, a 2-foot oak-framed mirror, a large picture of the Grand Canyon, a set of rubber Ford floor mats, 10 CDs, an Aiwa bookshelf CD player with no speakers, a chrome desk lamp, a Basset lamp; a 3-by-5 foot brown shag rug, a black and gold hallway runner rug; and a pair of black sunglasses. The estimated loss is $1,020.
