TeliaSonera acquires WiMAX operations of Alem Communications


Dec 31, 2012 (Datamonitor Financial Deals Tracker via COMTEX) -- TeliaSonera AB, a Sweden-based telecommunications group, has acquired the WiMax operations of Alem Communications Holding LLP, a Kazakhstan-based telecom holding company, from Midas Telecom Limited. The transaction is valued at $170 million.



Midas Telecom is a UK-based provider of managed voice, Internet and mobile services (analogue, IP and wireless) to residential users.

Concurrently, TeliaSonera and Visor Group also completed their investment in Kaztranscom.


Announcement (August 14, 2012): TeliaSonera has entered into an agreement to acquire the WiMax operations of Alem Communications for a consideration of $170 million.

The operations include a WiMax network in six major cities, and, in particular, frequencies in the 2.5/2.6 gigahertz band.
