BRIEF: Class set for young drivers to learn safety on the road


Dec 31, 2012 (Merced Sun-Star (Merced - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- New and future young drivers are invited to an upcoming free driver safety education class offered by the Merced Area California Highway Patrol's Start Smart Program.



The class, about two hours long, will be held Jan. 10 at the CHP office, 1500 Bell Drive, in Atwater.

Teens ages 15 to 19 and their parents or guardians are invited to hear officers discuss crash-avoidance techniques, crash causes, driving under the influence, driver and parent responsibilities, seat belt usage and other topics. The latest "Red Asphalt" video will be shown, and there will be talks by officers who have investigated fatal crashes involving teens.
