Oregan Networks announces availability of new version of OMB platform

Dec 27, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Oregan Networks, the British IPTV software and systems specialist, has announced availability of the next generation of its Oregan Media Browser, or OMB, platform for broadcast and telecoms operators.

The new platform embraces shifts in the TV industry - both in consumer behavior and the content publishing industry. The OMB v5 platform delivers faster web content layout and rendering performance, owing to powerful new HTML 5 and JavaScript engines that leverage the multi-core and multi-threaded architectures of the latest Digital TV silicon platforms.

Advanced user interface interactivity is achieved via support of HTML 5 and WebGL 3D, the adoption of which has reached the critical mass and led to diversification of content authoring technologies in use by web publishers and broadcasters who target multiple screens.

Oregan's middleware facilitates a hybrid model of high value content delivery, which combines over-the-air broadcast, broadband and home network media sources. A common layer of security-enabling technologies facilitates hardware and software tamper-resistance, bridging content protection requirements across various types of media. The platform is designed to the specifications of the encryption solutions, such as Microsoft PlayReady, Nagravsion CAK-7 (ELK & CLK), Widevine DRM and the widely adopted 128-bit AES encryption for HTTP Live Streaming (HLS).

The OMB platform is now expanded to cater for away from home content recording scenarios, introducing remote EPG and PVR capabilities. OMB v5 further expands on the capability to aggregate content metadata across personal, broadcast and cloud content, powering hybrid EPGs and multi-screen search applications.

The Onyx User Interface, optionally supplied with Oregan Media Browser, will now include a one touch remote scheduling and preview capability, with full synchronization of multiple interaction touch points, such as reminder flags, favorite channels and wish lists.

OMB v5 allows for real-time social networking updates and recommendations, whilst consuming linear or on-demand content, without affecting the performance of video applications or the user interface.
