Rivals ask ACCC to stop Telstra

Dec 19, 2012 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Telstra will learn on 20 December 2012 whether Australian Competition & Consumer Commission approval will be given to its proposed acquisition of ISP Adam Internet. The transaction valued at about $A55m is being opposed by rivals Vodafone Hutchison Australia, iiNet and Macquarie Telecom. They note that Adam may be able to gain favourable conditions from Telstra as the wholesaler, and that this would create unfair competition in the segment. Telstra may be planning to use Adam, with just 100,000 current subscriber based in South Australia, as a budget brand off-shoot.
