China Red Cross Society donates 200,000 dollar equipment to GhanaACCRA, Dec 18, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) donated a diverse assortment of medical and office equipment valued at 200,000 U.S. dollars to the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) on Tuesday in Accra, capital city of Ghana. The items include one ambulance, one SUV vehicle, 15 laptops, 30 desktops, 90 human body models, 500 sets of first aid kits, 160 sets of stretchers, 20 two-way radios, 120 sets of spine board and dozens of digital cameras and mobile phones. "The Chinese government has spared no effort to help Ghana in medical area during recent years," Gao Wenzhi, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Chinese Embassy in Ghana said at the handover ceremony. China has not only donated anti-malaria drugs to Ghana every year since 2006, built a new hospital in 2010, but also dispatched two Chinese medical teams since 2009 to benefit local people, according to the counsellor. Besides, RCSC, the only national Red Cross society in China, has also consistently over the years been supporting the staff and volunters from the GRCS in strengthening trainings in various of programs such as disaster, health and care, and resource development. "It is without any question that we will sponsor more donations of medical equipments and drugs, continue to help improve Ghana's medical conditions by different kinds of means, so as to make Ghanaians to keep healthy and enjoy qualified life," Gao said. The President of GRCS, Professor K. M. Bosompem, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Chinese government for the tireless role it has played in this donation. He promised at the ceremony that all the donated equipment will be used across the country to help protect human life and dignity. "It is my pleasure to assure you that the GRCS shall utilize these gifts from the China Red Cross and the Chinese government in line with our philosophy of promoting sustainable innovative partnerships," Bosompem said. "We will work in a way that will bring the benefits of all our resources to the promotion of the joint interests of all of us in the humanitarian mission, and especially to the vulnerable people of in our communities," Bosompem said. In an MOU signed in September 2011 between RCSC and GRCS, the two national societies pledged to support each other within their respective capacity and resources in the provision of humanitarian services for the benefit of the most vulnerable in society. |
