Adtran sets up Fiber-to-the-Home pilot network in Greece

Dec 18, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- ADTRAN, Inc., a provider of next-generation networking solutions, has announced that its GPON platform is enabling Forthnet to implement Fiber-to-the-Home, or FTTH, pilot network in the metropolitan area of Athens, Greece.

The platform will enable delivery of high-bandwidth triple play services to residential and business subscribers. With over 2,000 homes initially served in the municipality of Nea, Forthnet will be able to deliver FTTH based services that place Athens alongside other high-service density European FTTH deployments.

The ADTRAN GPON solution allows a simplified migration of Forthnet's customer base to the new FTTH services, while enabling capacity and bandwidth scale for future demands of new media services.

"FTTH is a game changer for service providers like Forthnet," says Dr Eduard Scheiterer, Managing Director, ADTRAN Europe. "What we are enabling with Forthnet is a new generation of network possibilities that places Forthnet at the pinnacle of the communication landscape in Greece.

"With new high-bandwidth applications being introduced on a continuous basis, it is important we provide the best technology the market has to offer. Our GPON solutions give Forthnet maximum flexibility and the scalability needed to accommodate future network growth." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
