Largest Graduation Class Signifies Growth for University Canada West

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Dec 17, 2012 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- University Canada West (UCW) celebrated its largest graduation class to date at its 7th Convocation on November 17, 2012 with over 115 graduates and more than 150 family members and friends.

Graduating classes have grown since UCW's first convocation in 2006 with a handful of graduates from only one program. Now students graduate from the Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications, Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Administration programs.

Valedictorian Harmanpreet Singh, representing the MBA class, urged his fellow graduates to "... give back to those that helped us: our families, to our school, and to our communities.... we all have a responsibility to help people, to make a real difference. At some point in our lives, we have to make hard choices for the greater good. So today, let's challenge ourselves to inspire by example, let's show everyone around us what we are capable of," he said.

This year's convocation featured two additional significant events: the installation of Dr. Arthur Coren as the university's newest president, and the awarding of an Honorary Doctorate to Mr. Scott Hannah for his work as an advocate for fair consumer legislation and for helping over 200,000 Canadians through financial counselling, education and finding solutions to overcome money and debt challenges.
