New BCC Programs Target High-Growth Job Opportunities

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) COCOA, Fla., Dec. 10 -- Brevard Community College issued the following news release: Brevard Community College is opening registration for three new technology programs as BCC expands areas of study in rapidly expanding job fields.

The programs are Cyber Security, Engineering Technology Support Specialist and 911 Public Safety Telecommunications Operator.

The Cyber Security and Engineering Technology Support Specialist programs will be offered for the first time in the 2013 Spring Term, which begins Jan. 14. The 911 operator program will be launched in February 2013.

"These careers have been identified by local and regional businesses as areas were job growth is occurring and will continue to occur," said Dr. Linda Miedema, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Learning Officer.

"In fact, four of the top 10 in-demand occupations in Brevard are in computer technology. That makes the programs an excellent opportunity for students just entering the job market and those advancing or changing their careers." Here is information on the programs: * Students can earn an Associate in Science Degree in Cyber Security, which includes coursework leading to preparation for the following industry credentials: CompTIA A+; CompTIA Network+; CompTIA Security+; Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA); Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA(R) Security); Microsoft Office Systems Bundle.

The program includes information technology courses already available on all four BCC Campuses. Initially, however, the core Cyber Security courses for this degree will be offered at the Palm Bay Campus.

Individuals with current certifications in these areas may be eligible for credit toward the degree.

For more information, contact Cathy Beam, career and technical program support services director, at 321433-7139 or beamc@brevardcc.edu.

* The Engineering Technology Support Specialist is a 20 credit-hour certificate program that can lead to an Associate of Science Degree in Engineering Technology. The program allows graduates to work in areas such as engineering design, manufacturing, processes and production, and testing and maintaining product quality.

It also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these areas, and aligns with the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) skills standards. MSSC defines the knowledge, skills and performance standards needed by today's manufacturing workers.

The certificate program is offered on the Cocoa Campus and the AS degree in Engineering Technology is offered on the Palm Bay campus.

For more information, contact Ashley Becker, career and technical programs specialist, at 321-433-7742 or beckera@brevardcc.edu.

* The 911 Public Safety Telecommunications Operator is an eight vocational credit certificate program. Successful completion will allow graduates to take the Florida Department of Health exam, which is required to receive a state license to serve as a 911 operator.

For information, contact program coordinator Tonia Graham at 321-433-5695 or grahamt@brevardcc.edu.
