Nirvanix Selects Violin Memory Flash Storage Arrays for Public and Private Cloud Deployments; Enterprise Cloud Storage Leader Deploys Violin Memory Arrays to Achieve up to a 15x Performance Increase over Conventional Disk-based SAN Storage

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London, UK -- Violin Memory, provider of a new class of high-performance flash-based storage systems, has been selected by Nirvanix for its public Cloud Storage Network spanning 10 data centres around the world. Violin's purpose-built Flash Memory Arrays have increased performance for customers by up to 15 times and enabled Nirvanix to expand its business into new markets. The Nirvanix-Violin solution is implemented across several multi-petabyte clouds, including a leading $50 billion financial services company. This is further validation that Violin's flash technology is replacing conventional storage area network (SAN) systems due to its vastly superior performance, scalability and cost advantages.

New Wave of Applications Deployed in the Cloud In addition to increasing performance by up to 15 times over conventional SAN storage, customer data from Nirvanix demonstrate that applications deployed in private clouds perform at near line speed, delivering nine gigabytes (GB) per second of throughput on a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) line and ensuring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met for consistent and continuous data accessibility and ingest. This ushers in a new wave of applications that can be deployed in the cloud.

"Integrating Violin Memory with our public, private and hybrid cloud solutions expands the opportunities for our customers to build their business on a cloud foundation and opens up business opportunities for us to better serve both new and existing customers," said Dru Borden, CEO of Nirvanix. "The superior performance of Violin's primary Flash Storage Arrays enhances the enterprise-class scale, security, data integrity and data accessibility that we provide." "Enterprise customers are looking to cloud storage solutions to store and access key business data while delivering an enterprise-class experience," said Jeff Janukowicz, research director of Solid State Storage at IDC. "High-performance flash-based storage systems, such as from Violin Memory, are well positioned to deliver that experience to customers by providing the performance, reliability and scalability necessary in a cost-efficient manner." Backups Reduced From Months to Weeks Violin Flash Storage Arrays have been implemented worldwide, delivering immediate benefits to customers. One Nirvanix-Violin private cloud customer plans to back up several hundreds of terabytes (TB) per week; processing this amount of data would take months using purely conventional disk-based SAN storage. This leading financial services company will deploy more than 10 PB of storage across multiple geographic locations.

"Violin Memory is dedicated to providing storage solutions in line with the performance, availability and economic needs of modern enterprise data centres," said Don Basile, CEO of Violin Memory. "Nirvanix is a world-class example of leveraging flash memory to build the storage infrastructure of the future. We are excited to be a part of the global cloud market with flash storage at the core." Choosing Violin's Flash Memory Arrays Over Traditional SAN Storage Nirvanix is essentially a URL with a byte stream payload that is immediately consistent and globally replicated based on policy with infinite elasticity. Violin Memory provides an injection of horsepower into the Nirvanix cloud architecture accelerating I/O performance for the world's most demanding enterprise customers and Fortune 500 clients. Nirvanix evaluated multiple traditional SAN storage options but Violin convincingly demonstrated superior performance and economics.
