Sheltering Wings CEO steps down
DANVILLE, Dec 11, 2012 (Hendricks County Flyer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Maria Larrison has resigned as the CEO of Sheltering Wings in Danville.
Sheltering Wings is an emergency housing shelter for women and children suffering from physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. The goal of the shelter is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment, helping those in need reach emotional and economic stability.
"I've been with Sheltering Wings from the beginning," Larrison said. "I've had the privilege of seeing it grow from a dream shared by a small group of people to a modern facility covering more than 30,000 square feet serving the needs of abused women and children."
She served as residential manager at the shelter from 2002 to '04 and as chief operating officer from '04 until assuming the responsibilities as CEO in '07.
Greg Hylton, president of the Sheltering Wings board of directors, said, "The board is very grateful to Maria for her many years of service and dedication to the shelter, and we wish her the very best. Her shoes will be hard to fill, but a search for her replacement will begin immediately."
Larrison said it was a hard decision to leave the shelter.
"It was difficult, but the right decision," she said. "I believe everyone has a season to be in a certain place and it was my time to move on."
She said she is taking time off to relax and pray.
"It's my job to listen to God to find his direction and move forward," Larrison said. "I know he's not done with me."
Hylton said April Bordeau has agreed to be the interim CEO until the search for a permanent replacement is found. Bordeau was director of the shelter starting in October 2001 and served in that capacity for nearly six years.
"April was introduced to the staff yesterday," Hylton said. "We will take several months to find a permanent CEO for the shelter."
