BRIEF: CMS lays groundwork for 2013 decisions

Dec 11, 2012 (The Charlotte Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- In its final meeting of 2012, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board will lay the groundwork today for a pivotal year ahead by voting on the superintendent's vision and electing its own officers.

The board will vote on Superintendent Heath Morrison's plans to make the district more competitive and successful by tailoring education to individual students, creating more public-school choices and connecting better with employees and the public. In January, Morrison and the board will launch a rigorous schedule of public forums and task force meetings to help them craft a detailed five-year plan in 2013.

The board will also elect a chair and vice chair, as it does every December. Current Chairman Ericka Ellis-Stewart and Vice Chairman Mary McCray won those posts last year, after both won their first-ever political campaigns and became at-large board members.
