Byfield man arrested on several theft chargesSALISBURY, Dec 06, 2012 (The Daily News of Newburyport - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Byfield man known by several law enforcement officers as a "frequent flyer" for his numerous brushes with the law is in trouble again after police say he stole a pickup truck from a Haverhill used car dealer last week and used it to shuttle TV cable and satellite equipment police say he ripped off from Salisbury motels. Dain Blackadar, 22, of Byfield, and an accomplice, Cheryl C. Cote, 46, of Salisbury, were arrested Tuesday on Beach Road and charged with receiving stolen property more than $250 (vehicle) and receiving stolen property more than $250 (electronics). Both were arraigned in Newburyport District Court yesterday and are expected back in court next month for pretrial hearings. According to the report of Salisbury police Officer Richard Dellaria, he was conducting a routine patrol on Beach Road when he noticed a Ford F350 pickup truck matching the description of a vehicle reported stolen days earlier. Dellaria reversed direction, caught up with the vehicle and ordered the driver to pull over. Dellaria reported seeing four people in the truck, including the driver. After additional police officers arrived, including Sgts. Robert Roy, Eugene Scione and Newburyport police Officer Christopher McDonald, the suspects were ordered out of the truck starting with the driver. Police quickly identified Blackadar as the driver based on his previous run-ins with the law and also handcuffed three female passengers. A search of the truck revealed a large box of electronic equipment in the bed of the truck. Among the items in the box were three computer speakers, a Direct TV receiver, miscellaneous Comcast cable equipment, countless cables and wires and another small cable receiver box. Blackadar told police the box was placed in the back of the truck by Cole whom he had picked up outside her motel room on Old County Road, according to Dellaria's report. Upon investigation, police determined the Direct TV receiver belonged to a resident of another Salisbury motel and that the truck belonged to a Haverhill used car dealer. Police also determined the other two females had no idea the car or equipment had been stolen and were released. According to Dellaria, Blackadar had approached the car dealer saying he was interested in purchasing the truck and wanted to bring it to his mechanic to make sure it was in good shape. The dealer agreed to this as it was common for him to allow perspective buyers to bring a vehicle to a mechanic. When Blackadar didn't bring the truck back after several hours, he called Haverhill police. After booking, Blackadar's father came to the police station and informed officers that his son was driving Cole around the area in return for drugs and that she was fully aware the truck had been reported stolen, Dellaria wrote in his report. In August, Blackadar was one of three people involved in a high-speed car chase that ended with a 15-year-old boy slamming a stolen Honda sedan into a tree stump on Forest Road in Salisbury. Blackadar and another passenger were charged with receiving stolen property more than $250 and use of a motor vehicle without authority.
