Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent Aids Telecom New Zealand's LTE Test


SHENZHEN, Dec 06, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) will assist Telecom New Zealand in LTE test, according to foreign media.

Telecom New Zealand on December 6 announced the launch of 4G LTE technological test in some places of Wellington and Auckland starting from December 7. The test to be launched in some northern beachfront areas of Auckland will be executed by Huawei, adopting 2600MHz frequency spectrum, while that in Lower Hutt of Wellington will be undertaken by Alcatel-Lucent, employing the same frequency spectrum as Huawei will.



Telecom New Zealand also intended to carry out two small-scale 4G LTE tests outside central areas. Alcatel-Lucent will, on behalf of Telecom New Zealand, carry out the test in a rural area in southern Hawke's Bay by adopting 700MHz frequency spectrum, while Huawei would use 1800MHz and 2600MHz frequency spectrum to launch the test in a small area in Rotorua.

Ed Hyde, general manager for mobile products at Telecom New Zealand, disclosed that the company planned to officially launch this new 4G LTE network at the end of 2013 or in early 2014.
