Communications agreement in county approvedDec 03, 2012 (Cleburne Times-Review - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Johnson County Commissioners voted to approve a communications systems agreement with four cities in a special session meeting Friday afternoon. The agreement, which includes the cities of Alvarado, Godley, Grandview and Joshua, is similar to one made between Johnson County and Fort Worth, County Attorney Bill Moore said. "Back in June, Johnson County signed a communications system agreement for Johnson County to utilize an interface with Fort Worth's radio system," Moore said. "I took the terms and conditions from the agreement with Johnson County and the city of Fort Worth, and the terms and conditions [for this agreement] are basically identical. Johnson County will not be asking any of the users here for anything different than what the city of Fort Worth is requiring of the county." Each city was represented by their respective police departments and took one copy of the agreement to sign and one copy to present to their respective city councils. County Judge Roger Harmon said they will now present the agreements to their councils for approval. Johnson County must start paying fees for the interface on Oct. 1, 2014, which gives the users time to get with their city councils for future budgets, Moore said. Present budgets won't be affected. Johnson County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tim Jones said the official start date for the radio system is Jan. 1. "I think they're ready. They have their radios, their programs ... they're just waiting for the agreement to get started," Jones told the commissioners before they voted on the item. The agreement states the user, or city, will pay the county an annual subscriber unit fee of $11.90 per month per subscriber radio in advance on an annual basis for all active radio IDs issued to each city at the time of annual billing. Harmon said additional cities can join in on the agreement if desired.
