Assault report turns into botched drug dealCROSSVILLE, Dec 03, 2012 (Crossville Chronicle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Crossville Police were notified Tuesday evening of a reported assault and road incident, but their investigation led them to determine the complaint was all part of an on-going incident relating to a drug deal. No arrests have been made as investigation is continuing. Police received a report around 7 p.m. of a white Chevrolet pickup being pursued by a white Neon car on Stanley St. but while en route, police were redirected to the Justice Center parking lot where they met with the caller, according to Lt. Larry Quall's report. The 30-year-old woman -- a resident of Storie Ave. -- told police that she had stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of Stanley St. and Storie Ave. when a man and woman in a car traveling behind her exited their vehicle. The man, the victim claimed, broke out her driver's side window, while the woman hollered at her, stating she owed her money. The victim added that she had no clue as to why the couple, and a third person who stayed in the vehicle during the assault, were attacking her. About two hours later, police located the suspects and their vehicle at a residence at Teresa Gardens, and were told quite a different story. The man and woman told police they had met the original complainant in the parking lot of the Dollar General Market off Miller Ave. where she was trying to purchase illegal drugs for $30. Reportedly, the original caller grabbed the money and took off, leading to the chase. However, the couple denied breaking the driver's door window. Instead, they claimed that while they pursued the woman in an attempt to recover their $30, the woman drove recklessly through driveways and jumping ditches, which might have caused the door glass to break. The second woman also complained about being knocked down by the fleeing woman's vehicle as she tried to grab her money back. Officers reported injuries to the women's knees. The woman whose money was taken was referred to a Judicial Commissioner to press charges. Police were unable to relocate the original caller. ___ (c)2012 the Crossville Chronicle (Crossville, Tenn.)
