Costs revealed for launch of first Azerbaijani national satellite

The total project cost of launching the first Azerbaijani national satellite has reached about $230 million, the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov told journalists.
"The price includes the cost of ground control stations construction and insurance costs," the minister said.
In his words, general expenses for satellite insurance have reached $ 17 million.
"Some $ 16 million of this amount account for 100 percent coverage of satellite's insurance and about one million dollars -- to guarantee the insurance amount," the minister said.
The satellite will be delivered to Kourou cosmodrome in January 2013, its launch into geostationary orbit is scheduled for early February 2013.
One plant employer and two employees of Telesat are currently at the Orbital Sciences Corporation plant for close monitoring of the process.
The payload of Azerspace-1, built on the STAR-2 platform, consists of 36 transponders (24 C-band transponders and 12 Ku-band range). The frequency band of each transponder is 36 MHz. According to the company, the satellite weights 3,300 kg.
The service life of the satellite in orbit will amount to 15 years.
The satellite will be launched into geostationary orbit 46 degrees of east longitude, leased from Malaysia's Measat Satellite Systems, owned by the government of Malaysia. Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North Africa will be included in the service area of Azerspace.
The Azerspace telecommunications satellite of Azerbaijan is designed to provide digital broadcasting, Internet access, data transmission, creation of VSAT multiservice networks, and governmental communications.
