FairPoint awarded USD16m contract for New England Telehealth Consortium network

Nov 28, 2012 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Communications provider FairPoint Communications (Nasdaq:FRP) yesterday announced the award of a four-year contract, valued at over USD16m, to support the needs of the New England Telehealth Consortium (NETC).

Under the contract, FairPoint will provide Carrier Ethernet Services to more than 400 health care sites in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

NETC, a three-state consortium of over 400 healthcare facilities, has received a USD24.6m Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rural Health Care Pilot Programme award to bring telemedicine to the region.

The network is reportedly designed to expand telehealth and telemedicine capabilities of northern New England health care centres and to enhance their capacities for electronic health information exchange.
