Terascala Joins the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences

BOSTON --(Business Wire)--

Terascala, the Fast Data company, today announced that it has joined the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS). Terascala will participate in the consortium's Digital Manufacturing Initiative, which focuses on exploiting commercial high performance computing (HPC) as a means of bringing products to market more quickly and with improved accuracy.

According to NCMS, today there are approximately 300,000 manufacturers in North America, 95% of which have 500 employees or less. By 2020, 98% of all products will be manufactured digitally; however, most small and medium-sized organizations do not have access to digital manufacturing tools.

"HPC used to be the domain of government, universities, and large business, and now that's no longer the case," said Jon Riley, Vice President, Digital Manufacturing, NCMS. "With more education and better access to resources, manufacturers of all sizes can implement a 'commercial HPC' solution that yields better data analytics, modeling/simulation, and improved workflow management-and ultimately better product design. Terascala has tools that optimize data throughput to high-performance manufacturing applications, so they're a perfect fit with our Digital Manufacturing Initiative and we're thrilled to welcome them aboard."

"Whether you're running a departmental computing center or a global group, if your jobs are taking days to run instead of hours-or if system crashes are a regular occurrence-those are major pain points that can be alleviated," said Steve Butler, CEO, Terascala. "Organizations are increasingly being thrust into the world of Big Data, and the rate of innovation is meteoric. We look forward t contributing our expertise to the NCMS's cross-industry collaborative research consortium."

Terascala offers a simple storage appliance that meets the demands of high performance enterprise computing. It overcomes the throughput bottleneck encountered by conventional NFS-based systems to deliver tens of gigabytes per second of aggregate read/write throughput. The Terascala appliance suite leverages the Lustre™ open source parallel file system and offers tools for high availability, system monitoring, health check and break/fix; event logging and alerts; application tuning; and workflow.
