Atmel received this highly prestigious award during a ceremony held in Shanghai,China, on November 15.

Winners for EDN China's 2012 Innovation Awards were chosen through an online voting system by EDN China's readers. After this selection process, a panel of experts and senior EDN China editors reviewed the nominees based on three criteria including technological innovation, market influence and related product service. Since 2005, EDN China Innovation Awards have steadily grown to become one of China's most respected accolades for the electronics design industry, with winning products gaining wide recognition in the local market.

The maXTouch S Series touchscreen controllers are Atmel's next-generation touchscreen controllers. They are ideal for designing innovative and intuitive interfaces for touchscreens up to 17 inches and for applications such as smartphones, tablets, Ultrabooks and e-readers.

Two additional products from Atmel have also been recognized by the 2012 EDN Innovation awards as award finalists. These products include Atmel's board support package (BSP) in the Embedded System - System Development category, and Atmel's AT86RF232 transceiver IC in the Communication and Networking - Front-end ICs category. The BSP runs the Android operating system on Atmel SAM9M10-G45-EK boards, which include Atmel's SAM9G45 and SAM9M10 ARM9-based MCUs for applications in the consumer, industrial and computing markets. The Atmel AT86RF232 transceiver supports wireless applications in high-volume consumer markets in the 2.4GHz Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band.
