TomTom announces cooperation agreement with Swedish Transport Administration

Nov 22, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- TomTom NV, a supplier of location and navigation products and services, has announced cooperation agreement with the Swedish Transport Administration, or STA, to exchange updates on road attributes and to improve the quality of map database.

As part of this cooperation, the Swedish Transport Administration, or STA, has joined the list of early adopters of TomTom's OpenLR location referencing technology. The royalty-free, open source technology will enable the Swedish Transport Administration (STA) to share speed limit changes with TomTom on a daily basis.

The OpenLR open-source system was developed by TomTom to enable many different types of location information to be shared between the different cartographic standards. Following the introduction of the speed limit data exchange with TomTom, the STA plans to share height restrictions, changes to signage and other road safety information.

"The expanded cooperation with the STA means that our maps are always fresh and all our customers are benefitting from accurate and up-to-date maps," says Charles Cautley, Managing Director TomTom Licensing. "That's why we are planning to introduce similar data exchange programs in other countries across Europe."
