BRIEF: Authorities Seek Woman Bitten By Rabid Cat In Chaplin

CHAPLIN, Nov 22, 2012 (The Hartford Courant - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Officials are seeking the public's help in locating a woman they say was bitten by a rabid cat on South Bear Hill Road early November.

The cat has since tested positive for rabies. Health officials believe the woman was a passenger in a car with at least one child. The incident happened on Nov. 8 after 5 p.m. between Cross Road and Canada Lane, officials say.

"It is very important that this woman be identified by the health district and directed to an urgent health care provider for post rabies exposure vaccinations," Eastern Highlands Health District Director Robert Miller said in a written release.

"Rabies is a deadly disease caused by a virus that can infect mammals, including people... It is transmitted primarily by the bite of rabid animals." For more information visit: http://www.ehhd.org.
