'Texas Country Reporter' puts Scheib Center in spotlightSAN MARCOS, Nov 21, 2012 (San Marcos Daily Record - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- As the upcoming weekend wraps up the Thanksgiving holiday, there may be no better "feel good" way to close it out than by watching a bit of television focused on this city's own Scheib Center. The facility that provides mental heath and mental disability services to residents in San Marcos and Hays County will be featured on Sunday's "Texas Country Reporter" program. Scheib was the winner among a number of Texas non-profit organizations of a new building, donated and fully constructed on site by Mueller, Inc. The contest was sponsored by the TV show, hosted by Bob Phillips, in celebration of its 40 years on the air. Scheib Board Chair Lisa Spencer said, "When Jason Anderson, producer for 'Texas Country Reporter,' called to give me the results, he said, 'Do you want the good news or the bad news first ' I said the bad. He then said, 'Well for the next four months you will be busier than you have ever been in your life.' My heart missed a beat, tears starting rolling down," Spencer said. Over the following months, work moved at a face pace culminating with the Oct. 4 celebration of the erection of the new building. Mueller even sent a 50-person volunteer crew of employees from all over the state to spend the final week completing the building. "Texas Country Reporter" came down and filmed that final week plus the celebration that was also attended by more than 400 San Marcos residents. The resulting 30-minute video will be aired on Sunday. "It is the best show ever. It is emotional, so watch with tissues in your hand. But truly, it is a wonderful story," Anderson said. For the community, the new building means better care and service by the Scheib team. "This new building means that the mental health team lead by Dr. Dawn Brunkenhoefer can serve more clients and serve them faster and in an atmosphere which makes everyone feel the hope, love and caring that is the core of Scheib's services," Spencer said.
