BRIEF: Sacramento-area residents send 524,000 meals to world's poor [The Sacramento Bee]

(Sacramento Bee (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 19--More than 524,000 meals packed by Sacramento-area residents are ready to be shipped to malnourished populations around the globe after a three-day assembly event ended Saturday.

Some 2,500 volunteers pitched in during the "Feed My Starving Children" event at William Jessup University in Rocklin.

Top sponsors were Wells Fargo, which covered the cost of nearly 50,000 meals, and Randy Peters Catering and Event Planning, which funded nearly 25,000 meals. Allied Waste Service of Sacramento, AT&T, Citrus Heights Rotary, Mercy San Juan Medical Center of Sacramento and Reeve-Knight Construction each funded 5,600 meals.

Organizers are still seeking donations to cover the cost of meals already packed. A $22 donation covers the cost of 100 meals. To donate, visit the organization's website.
