Police search for man who robbed Erie credit union

Nov 16, 2012 (Erie Times-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A man wearing dark sunglasses, tan boots and what was described as a "sparkly" scarf walked into a west Erie credit union Thursday morning, reportedly with a gun in his waistband, and walked out with stolen cash, Erie police said.

The robbery at the Erie Community Credit Union, 2165 W. 21st St., ended a lull in a string of regional bank robberies. Seven occurred the previous week, including three on the same day.

Erie police had no suspects in the latest robbery late Thursday.

The robbery was reported to police at 9:55 a.m., after a man fled the credit union with an undisclosed sum of cash and was last seen heading east on West 21st Street in a sport utility vehicle, possibly a black or blue Dodge Durango, according to dispatch reports.

Police said the man walked into the credit union and made a verbal demand for money to a teller. He was believed to have a silver handgun in his waistband.

Police described the robber as a white or Hispanic man in his 20s. He was 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed 130 to 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark hat with a white design, a blue quilted coat, a white T-shirt, black pants, black sunglasses and tan boots.

The robbery occurred a day after Millcreek Township police charged two people with robbing banks in the township on Nov. 9 and Saturday morning.

The accused, 34-year-old Anthony J. Herrmann and 27-year-old Erin M. Anderson, also face charges in the robbery of two banks in Erie on Nov. 8.

A third bank robbery on Nov. 8, in Conneaut, Ohio, remains under investigation. Also under investigation are bank robberies that occurred in Jamestown, N.Y., and Falconer, N.Y., on Nov. 5.

Anyone with information on Thursday's robbery is asked to call Erie police at 870-1120.
