Springs-based ISS acquires New Jersey company

Nov 15, 2012 (The Gazette (Colorado Springs - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Intelligent Software Solutions Inc. has acquired a small New Jersey-based company that specializes in selling data analysis software to law enforcement agencies worldwide, a deal aimed at helping ISS expand into those markets from its core business of developing similar software for military commands.

Xpect Software LLC will operate as an ISS division headed by Xpect President Laine Napier after it was acquired earlier this month for an undisclosed amount, Colorado Springs-based ISS announced Thursday. Xpect employs about 20 people in Mount Laurel, N.J., Golden, London and near Canberra, Australia. The company's primary product, called Dfuze, was used to operate command centers for the Olympic Games this summer in London and is used for improvised explosive device and explosive ordnance disposal worldwide, ISS President Jay Jesse said.

"This won't result in a big increase in revenue initially, but Xpect excels in the law enforcement area, selling to Scotland Yard and law agencies in 22 countries. We believe this acquisition will help open those markets to us. The two sets of products (from ISS and Xpect) will work well together," Jesse said.

"This move into new markets and the ability to leverage Xpect's sales model are very compelling benefits for ISS. We are taking our business, which is very vibrant and growing steadily, and blending it with new capabilities." The deal represents "an opportunity to instantly enhance the service and product range to our customers," Napier said in an ISS press release. "We have received acquisition offers in the past, but the criterion was always to grow our vision and enrich our customer base with quality products." ISS expects to generate $200 million in revenue this year and employs 800 worldwide, including 500 at its Colorado Springs headquarters and the rest scattered among offices in Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Afghanistan and various military bases, Jesse said.
