Model scouting duo hosts homecoming

Nov 14, 2012 (St. Louis Post-Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- It's not often that the people behind-the-scenes discovering talent get to take a victory lap.

On Saturday, Mother Model Management's co-owners Jeff and Mary Clarke will do just that. The successful model scouts who were responsible for developing one of the world's top models, Karlie Kloss, will host a homecoming for all the models still under their management and care.

The Clarke's often spend years working with young talent with potential and sometimes, it pans out and sometimes it doesn't. The upcoming showcase is just a small glimpse of the dreams they have fulfilled over the past decade and what they hope to do for the decade to come.

On Nov. 17 the public will get an inside peek at a modeling showcase. The management team has organized a homecoming and party for most of the current models in their stable, including a few currently under development.

The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 17, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Wonderland at the MX, 618 Washington Avenue. Tickets are $20-$50 at tributestl.com.

Mary Clarke said the show will be an homage "to what we did in the beginning days in Iowa." She and her husband hosted vintage driven shows that they dubbed "Salvation-Armani" and invited modeling agency representatives from New York, Chicago and the like to preview their midwest discoveries.

Over the past decade, the Clarke's have launched hundreds of careers and traveled the globe many, many times overseeing their models. Mary Clarke said that they want to bring the excitement of a New York, Milan or Paris runway home.

Take a look at the dynamic scouting duo's ability to spot international modeling talent at the mall, Starbucks and even The Cheesecake Factory in their Tribute video at tributestl.com. Snapshots of the young women and men sans makeup are juxtaposed against video of them at photo shoots and strutting down runways.

Anyone can spot a model once their skin is perfect, they have the right haircut, they have learned to walk in heels and they've sculpted their body into ideal shape. Few can spot the potential in a pimply adolescent at a St. Louis pep rally.

Kudos to the Clarke's for 10 years of helping craft the next generation of fashion models.
