How did you become a Packers fan?
Nov 13, 2012 (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
You are millions, from all walks of life, scattered by geography but united by an unbreakable bond.
You are Packer Nation.
Perhaps you were born into the culture of Green Bay Packers fanaticism, raised in Wisconsin on Starr and Hornung or Reggie and Brett.
Maybe you discovered the Packers later in life, turned onto the team by a friend or a spouse or a co-worker, wondering at first what all the fuss was about and growing to love the tradition, the history, the passion.
However the seed was planted, we want to know your stories. We want to know how and why you became a Packers fan.
Send your stories to email@example.com. We'll pick out some of the best and reprint them later this season as part of a story on the evolution of Packer Nation.
We want to hear from Packers fans around the globe. It doesn't matter whether you're a season ticket-holder or a one-game bucket-lister, whether you live in Green Bay or Greenland.
If you've never been within 1,000 miles of Lambeau Field but can feel the magic in the air on Sunday afternoons, you're a member of Packer Nation.
On game days, you might wear Ray Nitschke's No. 66 jersey and scream bloody murder at the TV. You might sit quietly in a duck blind or a deer stand, straining to hear Wayne and Larry through the static on the radio. Perhaps you seek out your kind in Packer bars in Phoenix or Texas, in Belfast or Uruguay.
You have one thing in common:
You bleed green and gold.
To be sure, the Packers aren't the only professional sports team with legions of far-flung fans. But the franchise's survival against all odds in small-town America and its unique community-owned structure -- along with a history replete with titles and titans -- resonate on a deep emotional level with its fan base.
To members of Packer Nation, the team still represents the romanticized ideals of community, teamwork, pride and excellence.
So share your stories. Tell us what's special about being a member of Packer Nation. Tell us why you proudly wave the flag.
In the meantime, Go Pack Go.
