China Telecom, China Unicom Disclose 4G Progress


BEIJING, Nov 13, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China Telecom Corporation Limited (SEHK: 0728 and NYSE:CHA) and China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050) have for the first time disclosed that they were preparing for the 4G era.



Wang Xiaochu, chairman of China Telecom, and Chang Xiaobing, chairman of China Unicom, disclosed the 4G progress of their companies for the first time during the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) period.

According to Wang Xiaochu, China Telecom is now carrying out experiment on 4G base stations in Shanghai and Nanjing, while Chang Xiaobing disclosed that China Unicom would gradually construct 4G mobile network sooner or later and believed that this was a right decision.


Currently, China Mobile Ltd. (NYSE: CHL and SEHK: 0941) has finished the equipment bidding for TD-LTE experimental network and has put the network into commercial use in several cities. According to previous planning, the network is expected to see more than 200,000 base stations and CNY 180 billion investment by 2013.
