Virgin Australia's 60 Per Cent Stake in Tiger Airways Good for TravellersMelbourne, Au, Nov 13, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- In its weekly video blog, Pan Australian Travel goes over recent announcements from Virgin Australia and how the changes will affect travellers. Pan Australian Travel's Managing Director, Jake Hower, also gives tips to improve the travel experience, based on his recent travels to the U.S. and Europe. Virgin Australia announces their purchase of a 60% stake in Tiger Airways. Virgin says it has no plans to change Tiger Airways' brand for at least another 20 years. Virgin is also buying 100% of SkyWest. The combination of these two purchases will allow Virgin to make more inroads into the mining market. This will allow them to compete head on with Qantas. "Virgin's purchase of Tiger Airways will allow them to compete with Qantas subsidiary JetStar. Their purchase of SkyWest will allow them to compete with QantasLink," explained Jake Hower. Virgin also has the advantage of strong airline partners since they sold off 10% of Virgin to Singapore Airlines. "That makes Air New Zealand, Etihad, Singapore Airlines and Richard Branson the main shareholders of Virgin Australia," said Mr. Hower. "At this point, we're not sure how everything will turn out. However, I do think that travellers will benefit massively from the increased competition in the market. This is especially true for domestic travel, but also true of international travel as well," he continued. At the end of its video blog, Pan Australian Travel also gives some travel tips to improve the travel experience. The travel tips come from Jake Hower's recent travels to the U.S. and Europe. Hower advises travellers to empty out all belongings and put them in the carryon luggage in order to speed up the security check-in process. "That way you won't have to stop at security to empty your pockets, take off your belt, and then put it all back on--only to take it off again once you get to the other side of security," said Mr. Hower. A second insider tip is if a traveller is wearing a jacket with an interior pocket, he should put his boarding pass and passport in the pocket. This allows the passenger to board the aircraft and put away their luggage in the cabin before filling out an immigration card. Keeping their jacket to themselves eliminates the stress of having to reach for luggage to pull out their passport after they have already put the luggage away in the cabin. Another tip covered in the video blog is to learn the numbers in the language of the travel destination country. "You're using numbers all the time when you travel. Especially in places like France and Italy where many locals don't speak a lot of English, just knowing how many people you want a table reservation for or your room number, or the street number for the taxi really helps," advised Mr. Hower.
