Iran proposes joint telecom satellite for ECO [Mehr News Agency (Iran)]


(Mehr News Agency (Iran) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TEHRAN, Nov. 12 (MNA) - Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Reza Taqipour has proposed member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization with manufacturing a joint satellite for telecommunication purposes. Addressing the 1st ECO Ministerial Meeting on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Telecommunications in Tehran, he called for devising common standards for using telecommunication systems among the organization's member states, according o the Mehr News Agency.



The 1st ECO Ministerial Meeting on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Telecommunications opened on Sunday and will last till Tuesday.

The objective of the meeting is to exchange views and discuss ways and means for enhancement of cooperation in the area of telecommunication, development of ICT and telecommunication infrastructure, providing support for the ICT and telecom private sector and public-private partnership, strengthening of ICT technology along the ECO's approved rail and road transport corridors, promotion of cooperation on postal services, etc.


ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey with the aim of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among member states.

The organization was expanded in 1992 to include seven new members, namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. MNA END (c) 2012 Mehr News Agency Provided by Syndigate.info an Albawaba.com company
