Australia : Macquarie University Delivers Enhanced Student Collaboration and Services with Avaya Networking Solutions [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Avaya, a global provider of business collaboration and communications solutions and services, today announced that Australia's Macquarie University has deployed an Avaya Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture (VENA) solution across its network to increase the flexibility of its teaching delivery methods and provide better services to students.

Macquarie University has grown its student numbers in recent years and, in the process, evolved its technology-based learning initiatives. As a result, the university needed more network bandwidth to support online course work, streaming audio lectures and work outside the classroom. It also wanted to head off anticipated bandwidth demand created by the uptake of mobile devices, multicast video streaming and remote lecture applications.

With this in mind, the university selected the Avaya Virtual Services Platform (VSP) 9000 and Avaya's VENA Enterprise Fabric capability to power its upgraded network, alongside products from Avaya's Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) range, including the ERS 4000, 5000 and 8800. Avaya also provided all design and implementation services in this project.

The Avaya solution has helped Macquarie University increase network speeds across its campus. With the Avaya VSP 9000, the university has evolved to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) capabilities, providing some of the university s older buildings with 100 times the network throughput they had previously. This means that students don t experience delays on busy days or when they download large files. The increased network speed has also supported explosive growth in wireless devices particularly since the University allows students to bring their own devices running Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, iOS and Android operating systems to lectures and tutorials.

In addition to being faster, Macquarie University s upgraded network is both simpler and more reliable. The Avaya VENA Enterprise Fabric, which is based on the open Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) standard, provides application-based network virtualisation and ensures that each network application receives the appropriate quality of service across the campus. These applications include active-active data centres, voice systems, campus video distribution and wireless local area network (WLAN) access. The virtual network fabric also connects the University s network to data centres in Ryde and Ultimo helping ensure that the network can continue to operate in the event of a failure or natural disaster.

This announcement highlights Avaya s commitment to bringing The Power of We to every Avaya customer to help drive faster collaboration, smarter decisions and better business results.
