Reporters to get free Wi-Fi access at Sochi Olympic

MOSCOW, Nov 08, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Reporters would get free Wi-Fi access during the upcoming Sochi Olympics, Russian organizer said Thursday.

Organizer of the 2014 winter games reached a deal with Russian communications firm Rostelecom to offer free 10 megabit Wi-Fi internet access to reporters covering the games, chief organizer Dmitry Chernyshenko told local sports media R-sport.

The free Wi-Fi zone would cover the media center and all major stadiums of the Olympic and Paralympic games, Chernyshenko said.

The speed of the internet service was not guaranteed, Chernyshenko said, adding photo journalists and TV reporters who might need faster internet speed to transfer pictures and videos could pay for upgrades.

The winter game is slated for February 2014 in the Black Sea resort. Under the theme of "Hot. Cool. Yours.", the Sochi Olympics will feature 98 medal events, which is 12 more than those of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
