BRIEF: Herculaneum's police chief resigns, leaves with six months' pay

Nov 07, 2012 (St. Louis Post-Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- HERCULANEUM -- Chris Pigg, the Herculaneum police chief, resigned last week and was paid six months' salary as well as three months' worth of benefits, Mayor Bill Haggard said today.

Pigg submitted his resignation on Oct. 31 and it was effective immediately. Haggard said he did not give a reason for leaving and the amount Pigg was paid was not immediately available.

Pigg, 56, became police chief of Herculaneum in 2004 after 25 years with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Pigg started his career in law enforcement as a patrolman in Herculaneum in 1977.

Mark Tulgetske, who was Herculaneum's assistant police chief, is serving as interim chief. No plans have been made for how the city will permanently fill the job, Haggard said.

Tulgetske joined Herculaneum's police department in 2005 after 14 years with the sheriff's office. He also served 12 years on the Rolla police force and 18 months as a police officer in Monett, Mo.
