In Cranston, lines long as poll workers check IDs

Nov 06, 2012 (The Providence Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- CRANSTON, R.I. -- Voters at Cranston High School West reported 45-minute waits to cast their ballot Tuesday morning as poll workers adjusted to a new voter-ID requirement.

Around 7:50 a.m., about 45 people stood in line as workers checked ID forms while four of the 11 voting booths stood vacant.

At 9:30 a.m., seven of the 11 voting booths were vacant as lines were even longer, extending the length of the basketball court in the school's gymnasium.

The poll site is in Cranston's Senate District 27, home to a three-way race between Democratic incumbent Sen. Hanna Gallo, independent Aram G. Garabedian and Republican Robert B. Lancia.
