Churchill Downs Inc. launches gambling site Luckity.com

Nov 01, 2012 (Lexington Herald-Leader - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Churchill Downs Inc. announced Thursday the official launch of its new online gambling platform, Luckity.com.

The Web site has 20 numbers games, draw games, jackpots, quick picks and other betting options designed to appeal to lottery and slots players.

The winners are determined by the outcome of live horse races at racetracks across the world, but the players don't see the races.

Bets can be as low as 10 cents, and there are free bingo games that award "clovers" that can be used to enter weekly cash sweepstakes, according to a news release.

"We have a lot more under development and look forward to rolling out new games and features to our players frequently," said Eric Hartness, Luckity.com's vice president of marketing.

Luckity.com has been under development for several months. Churchill Downs promoted it with a sign on the tote board at this year's Kentucky Derby.

Like Churchill Downs Inc.'s other online betting platform, the advance-deposit wagering site TwinSpires.com, Luckity.com is licensed by the Oregon Racing Commission, according to the company.

Luckity.com represents a new move in Churchill's bid to shore up declining racing revenue with other forms of gambling and take advantage of racing's ability to allow legal gambling both online and across state lines.

By operating under the Churchill Downs Inc. umbrella and basing the outcome on live pari-mutuel bets, the company seeks to tap a new market with what it called "the first Web site in the U.S. offering fun games online with a chance to win huge cash prizes in a safe, secure and legal environment." The company, which has lobbied Kentucky and other states to allow slots at tracks, also owns two stand-alone casinos in Mississippi.
