Lockheed Martin upgrades general aviation flight planning website

Oct 12, 2012 (AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION via COMTEX) -- U.S.-based aerospace firm Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) said that its Flight Services unit has announced the launch of the Automated Flight Service Station Pilot Web Portal and the new Adverse Condition Alerting Service.

According to Lockheed Martin, ACAS and the Pilot Web Portal will enhance safety and convenience for pilots who use LMFS to file flight plans.

The company said that pilots who register online and opt-in for ACAS via the Pilot Web Portal will receive alerts of new adverse conditions specific to their filed flight plans via text, email and Iridium satellite devices. The alerts prompt pilots to call or radio LMFS to receive an abbreviated briefing addressing the new adverse condition.

Also, the Pilot Web Portal, accessible through AFSS.com, allows pilots to file flight plans directly with LMFS and retrieve the same briefing information and weather graphics provided to LMFS Specialists. The Pilot Web Portal is in the beta development stage and will continue to evolve with new features.
