Oct 11, 2012 (The Free Lance-Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Locust Grove-based Nexgrid has begun shipping its new intelaMeter Water product to utility companies.

Nexgrid is a leading provider of advanced metering and smart grid infrastructure based on open standards.

Its new product allows utilities and their customers to monitor water usage in real time from any computer or smartphone. It provides consumption data as well as leak and tamper detection.

"This latest product demonstrates Nexgrid's commitment to developing new and innovative products for the Smart Grid," said Costa Apostolakis, founder and CEO of Nexgrid, in a prepared statement. "We now provide water and electric metering, street light control and load management on a unified communications infrastructure." --Cathy Jett ___ (c)2012 The Free Lance-Star (Fredericksburg, Va.)
