INTERNEXA selects Alcatel-Lucent's 100G fiber optic technology to dramatically enhance content distribution in Peru

Oct 03, 2012 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- INTERNEXA, a connectivityinfrastructure and telecommunication solution provider in South America, willdeploy 100 gigabit per second (100G) optical coherent technology fromAlcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) to dramatically boost the speedand capacity of its data network to support the distribution of digital contentfrom around the world into the region. The new network also will enableINTERNEXA to meet subscribers' fast-growing demands for mobile video,high-speed Internet access and other data services in Peru.

INTERNEXA has the largest terrestrial telecommunications network in SouthAmerica, providing connectivity to operators in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador,Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and soon, Central America. The company ismigrating digital content currently located outside the continent to datacenters in Colombia and Brazil through agreements with the main ContentDelivery Network (CDNs). This move will enhance efficiency for operators, quality of service for subscribers and create new opportunities for contentdevelopers.

As a result, INTERNEXA needed a solution that could manage huge volumes ofdata traffic and reduce complexity in its network in Peru to providehigher-quality services.

Luis Francisco Gamero, Operations Director of INTERNEXA Peru said: "WithAlcatel-Lucent's innovative 100G solution we're taking a major step to deploy ahighly flexible network that will support present and future bandwidth demandwith improved performance and allow faster delivery of services to the market.By creating the conditions for a Latin American Internet we're building thefuture for the people in Peru and the rest of the region." Designed to address the booming demand for high-bandwidth data services suchas high-definition video streaming, Internet applications and cloud services, next generation optical coherent technology - based on dense wavelengthdivision multiplexing (DWDM) - offers exceptional performance in existing andnew networks.

Osvaldo Di Campli, President of Alcatel-Lucent in the Caribbean and LatinAmerica said: "Our DWDM solution offers unprecedented capacity, scalability, bandwidth and the lowest cost per bit for a reduced total cost of ownership. This 100G upgrade will dramatically expand the capacity of INTERNEXA's network, helping ensure the delivery of high-quality services and providing the operatorwith a flexible platform to expand their capacity to 400G in the future, withminimal investment." About the Alcatel-Lucent technology solution for INTERNEXA Alcatel-Lucent is supplying INTERNEXA with its 100G optical coherenttechnology employed in the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) . In addition the company will deliverthe 1660 SM STM-16/64 Optical Multi-Service Node for Metro Applications , the 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS) 320 and the 1350 Management Suite .

Alcatel-Lucent's 100G optical coherent technology is a key element of theAlcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network(TM) (HLN) architecture, which is designed toslash transport costs and dramatically reduce operational complexity in corenetworks.
